Corona Arch & Return To Arches NP For Fabulous Delicate Arch........14th

Our last day at Moab and we set off along the scenic Potash Road to the Corona Arch trailhead, this is a hike that has been recommended to us.......The Potash Road runs alongside the Colorado River, the steep sides of the canyon walls being very popular with rock climbers ......there are also several areas of Ancient Indian petroglyphs....
The 15 mile Potash Road ends at a potash mine, completely hidden in another canyon....Dave another educational, we just had to google potash, we didn't realise what big business it is.....this mine is distinctive because of the method used to extract the potash....check out potash mine near Moab....
This railway track was constructed to move the potash from the mine to the distribution centre....
The Corona Arch trail begins here after steep climb up from the car park...
Remember the green cross code !!
Looking back down the trail......

Corona Arch.....

Hand rail to aid the steep climb up the rock face....
Back down the trail and The Colorado River & Railroad Track....a good hike, more strenuous than we had realised but enjoyable and great views....
The second part of the day was a return to Arches National Park to hike the trail to Delicate Arch, it was  recommended to view this arch late afternoon/sunset.....I just couldn't resist another photo of the Pharaoh balancing rock....
This is part of the trail.....have to say this really was a strenuous hike and had an elevation gain on the hike of 480ft,  best part of an hour and of course uphill most of the way, at  least it was downhill on the way back !!
The last section of the trail.....a  200 foot 3 foot wide ledge with a sheer drop......
Yorkieman on the edge !
The stunning Delicate Arch.....it was so worth the hike this was our favourite arch in the park.....
It's a popular attraction with photographers and artists in the late afternoon light....
Photographers on the top of the canyon wall opposite the arch....

Fascinating swirls on the the sandstone rock...

A smaller arch along the trail.... Yorkieman climbed up to take the picture below through this arch....
Note the moon rising.....
We've had a fabulous day and a great stay in Moab....we are so lucky that the Utah parks are open and that we have been able to visit these amazing parks.....we feel Arches NP is a must see....
We are on the move tomorrow to Cortez, Colorado....
For now it's good night from The Very Happy Campers......

  1. HI Sue & Michael,
Wow my knowledge is being widely extended I now know what a petroglyph is and all about potash (chemical symbol K2 CO3).I cannot wait to sit around a dinning table with Mr Bloor again, and engage in conversation.(I`ll show him)
Love the photographs especially the Delicate Arch. Once again I`m feeling totally unfit after catching up with your treks. Ah well time for another Guinness, cheers,
    Enjoy Cortez,
    All the best,
    Ann& Dave
